Singapore’s Changi Airport – One of the Best Airports in the World

In 1930, the first airport in Singapore was opened – named the Seletar Airport, while the second airport, Kailang Airport was opened in 1937. The third international airport was built at Paya Lebar and an opening was held in 1955. However, this international airport encountered various problems and soon had to expand to cater for the increasing number of passengers. The government decided to build a new airport at Changi.

Singapore's Changi Airport - One of the Best Airports in the World

The Changi Airport or Changi International Airport is located 20 km north-east of downtown of Changi, Singapore. It is a major aviation hub and houses more than 100 airlines flying to 200 different destinations worldwide. The airport has also ranked 18th as the busiest airport in the world and 5th amongst the busiest in Asia. Changi Airport has contributed so much to the economy of the country and has received awards for its physical upgrading such as terminals, new facilities and excellent customer service.

Changi International Airport has 5 terminals, with more than 70,000 sq. meters of commercial centers. Aside from being an airport, it has also become a favorite of Singaporeans and tourists to shop and dine. The first 3 terminals are connected by a transit lounge and passengers move freely without immigration checks. The fourth terminal which is known as the Jet Quay has its own check-in counters which serve premium passengers. The last is the budget terminal built especially for budget carriers. Passengers are carried via shuttle bus to Terminal 2 free of charge.

Upgrading works as well as terminal overhaul are currently on-going, converting Terminal 1 into a “Tropical City”. Terminal 2 features a cinema with a large plasma screen, an indoor garden and outdoor rooftop garden and numerous shops. Terminal 3 has walls made of glass and its interior design has maintained the coolness of the building along with a waterfall and green wall. At Changi Airport, visitors receive excellent service and exceptional experience while travelling, thus making passengers feel right at home.
